Sparkle is so much more than a Flash killer? No it’s bloody not. It’s pants. If designers require no coding ability then the code the app produces automatically from their design interaction will be unoptimised, bulky and very generic. This is all bad coding practice and can’t compete with Flash on a file size issue alone. This won’t compete with Flash any more than Frontpage competes with Dreamweaver – and that’s a very apt comparison

The code it produces is the same code that the VS.NET forms designer produces, which is full optimized and not “bulky.” Basically what Microsoft is doing is making it easier to owner-draw controls. When it comes to UI stuff it’s very hard to get “generic” code.
